I used to love Leary, until I found out he was a rip-off, just like many are saying here. Bill Hicks is the true face of comedy behind Denis. But what I just found out through this video was yes, previous commentator was right too; he's nothing but a republican puppet, augmenting fear into the public.

| Subject: Denis Leary - Bill HicksDenis used to be roommates with Bill Hicks, a very talented standup comic who died young. Bill Hicks was featured on the same Rodney Dangerfield HBO special where Sam Kinneson and Andrew Dice Clay got their “breaks”. Just before he died Bill Hicks also had comedy album released which was very funny and well reviewed. After Bill Died Denis basically began doing Bills act. I’m not saying Denis stole Bill Hick’s act because perhaps knowing he was dying bill was cool with letting his friend use his material. Yes he changed it slightly. Denis delivery was much angrier and he mixed in some routines of his own that Bill did not write.
My point is though that Denis’ career did not really begin to get traction until Bill Hicks died and he began using his dead roommate’s material. Don’t take my word for it. Just listen to recordings of Bill Hicks before he died and then to Denis Leary’s early work. The release dates make it very clear who copied from who.
The one thing this video does confirm for me though is that Denis appears very sensitive about the subject of joke writing. I’m not saying that Denis is a bad guy. I have enjoyed his stand up as well as his work in movies and TV. And my comments do not in any way take away from his charity work. Just as his charity work does not take anything away from the truth of my statements.
